"Advances in the diagnosis and treatment of
Celiac Disease have allowed many to re-establish their health and reclaim fulfilling, pain-free lives.

Unfortunately, many more endure the symptoms of gluten sensitivity and the impact of Celiac Disease because
current medical practice fails to identify the majority of the cases of this insidious disease."

Diane Jacobs in "What on Earth is a Celiac? e-booklet

Celiac disorder, is frequently misdiagnosed as other digestive diseases. Learn the difference between Celiac Disease and Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS and other bowel disease, such as Crohn's disease, gall bladder disease, colitis, proctitis, various digestive disease and intestinal disease.

All or most of these bowel or intestinal disorders can be similar to Celiac Disease and can manifest with symptoms of severe diahrrea, abdominal cramping, and weight loss, to name a few. Celiac Disease can also present with few symptoms and can be associated with autoimmune diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis, anemia, osteoporosis, chronic fatigue syndrome, and infertility. gall bladder disease, Crohn's disease or ulcer or other irritable digestive or intestinal or bowel disease.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS is characterized by a group of bowel symptoms (similar to Celiac Disease), in which abdominal pain or irritable bowel discomfort is associated with a change in bowel pattern such as loose or more frequent bowel movements, diarrhea, and/or constipation. Celiac disease, also known as Celiac Sprue, Coeliac disease.
Diagnosis of celiac disease is difficult as symptoms of Celiac disease can come and go. Celiac disease can be phantom-like, in that it may present with many symptoms such as abdominal pain and diarrhea, or no symptoms at all. Celiac disease is most commonly misdiagnosed as irritable bowel syndrome or ibs, gall bladder disease, Crohns disease or ulcer or other digestive or intestinal disease.
